Next, our team connects your home to Mercury’s fiber network by running fiber lines to a utility box outside, then linking them to an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) inside. This device is the hub that powers your high-speed connection.

Once everything is in place, the technician conducts a complete performance test to confirm that your fiber internet runs smoothly. We’ll also walk you through setting up the Mercury @ Home app on your smartphone to customize your Wi-Fi experience, access support and install parental controls.

Equipment Requirements for Ultra-Fast Speeds

As part of the installation process, Mercury will provide you with a multi-gig capable ONT to convert the fiber signal into something your router can use and Cat6a or Cat 7 ethernet cables. Wired connections are recommended to take advantage of true 5 Gig performance. Many modern motherboards now ship with 2.5G ports, but for full 5-gigabit speeds, a special network interface card is required.

A Wi-Fi 6–enabled Momentum Blast router also comes standard with your service. These routers are commercial-grade and designed to handle multiple devices with strong coverage across the home. Large homes may need to add a Wi-Fi extender to avoid dead zones. Mercury’s Whole Home Wi-Fi program ensures Wi-Fi is available in every room.
